Do you have a closet full of photos, film, or home videos?
Be aware that they can deteriorate with age or be lost to water or fire damage. When making copies, be sure to save them to a digital medium and store an extra copy at a different location.
· Convert Media from Film, Analog Audio/Video
Saving your photos, films and videos to a digital format will help protect them from aging or environmental damage. Converting to digital will also make the items more convenient for viewing, sharing and storage.
· Save to DVD, Digital Storage and Post on line
DVDs are not indestructible. Although they are easier to store than bulky videotapes, copies should be made and the most valuable recordings should also be saved to multiple storage devices. Flash drives, external hard drives and on-line storage sites provide extra backup.
· Label, Catalog, and Link Media
Identify each photo/film/video by date, location, subject and every person seen or heard. Organize and Catalog your material chronologically, into a searchable spreadsheet or hypertext document so that outtakes can be found quickly.
